In architecture the projects become rich through the process of design. Working and re-working iterations through models and drawings develops the project from a simple idea into an interweaving of informed decisions that transcend the project into something great. Furthermore, the more constraints placed on an architectural project from the beginning inform the design and guide the process towards a better project.
The process of making art is similar. Discoveries are made and built upon during the total immersion of making a piece that informs that piece or contributes ideas for the next. Like architecture, craft is an important component in working. This thorough mindset of craft that is practiced throughout the process yields pieces that are just as important as the finished piece that is being constructed. Jigs are made. Waste is collected. A book has been cut in order to extract the words or names needed for a drawing. Something from everything and everything is a project.
Andrew Wenrick received a Masters in Architecture from the University of Oregon and a Bachelors of Science in Industrial Design & Technologies from California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt and is a licensed Architect in the state of Massachusetts. Currently he is living and working in London, England where his intense focus and motivation continues to fuel art and building projects.
